PLEDGE

India is my country / all Indians are / my brothers and sisters.
I love my country / and I am proud / of its rich and varied heritage.
I shall always strive / to be worthy of it. I shall give my parents / teachers and all elders respect / and treat everyone with courtesy. To my country and my people / I pledge my devotion / in their well-being and prosperity alone lies my happiness.

THE PREAMBLE TO OUR CONSTITUTION

We, the people of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic, republic and to secure to all its citizens:
Justice, social, economic and political;
Liberty, of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
Equality, of status and opportunity;
and to promote among them all Fraternity assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity of the nation. In our Constituent Assembly this twenty sixth day of November, 1949 do hereby adopt, enact and give to ourselves this constitution.
